Hi LonerVamp,
Thanks for the comment. I agree with you that it really takes a special group of folks to put aside their egos for the betterment of the group. Not everybody can manage this, and that's why a key component of many companies that practice democracy in the workplace is how they hire people. I'll write a post on hiring practices soon!

In the meantime, I wish you well in your attempt to find good folks to work and play with. Don't get discouraged--they're out there!

I think that's an awesome story. Sadly, I'm not sure just any group can accomplish the same thing (I'm speaking beyond musical orchestras). I think the biggest key that you mentioned in your bullets was the amount of trust and respect that needs to happen; that egoless attitude. Too often groups in business get blinded or blindsided by individuals not able to trust or respect each other, which prevents their ability to do great things.

It truly takes a special group of people to do something like that, and I hope that if I ever do find such a group in life and work, that I recognize it and embrace it fully. This goes beyond work as well, into relationships and circles of friends that have that egoless trust and respect. You can do some fun and fulfilling things. :)
